DOUGLAS - Baritone

Douglas was born in Fife and graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) under the tuition of Stephen Robertson.

He has taken part in Masterclasses with Malcolm Martineau, Sir Thomas Allen, Paul Kiesgen, Richard Jackson and Matthew Best. Douglas was a baritone soloist in Faure’s 'Requiem' with the Ulster Youth Choir including a live performance on BBC Radio Ulster. In 2004 he was invited to lead the National Anthem at Scotland's televised home games, in the Autumn Series and RBS 6 Nations Rugby Tournament. In his time at the RSAMD Douglas won the Bill Dewar Memorial Prize, and was runner up in the Governors Recital Prize.

Operatic roles include 'Cascada' (The Merry Widow), 'The Doctor' (Macbeth), Carl Linden (Bitter Sweet). Papageno (Die Zauberflote) and 'Don Giovanni' (Don Giovanni) with Fife Opera, 'Morales' (Carmen) with 'Opera on a Shoestring', 'Dancairo' (Carmen) at Haddo House Opera and ‘Silvio’ (Pagliacci) with Lakeland Opera.

He understudied 'Peleas', (Peleas et Melissande) at the RSAMD, and sang the roles of 'Liberto' (L'Incoronazione di Poppea), Narrator (The Vanishing Bridegroom), and ‘Le Surintendent des Plaisirs’ (Cendrillon). Douglas was guest Baritone for The Ulster Orchestra and appeared at Edinburgh’s Royal Lyceum Theatre in Britten’s ‘Curlew River’ for The Edinburgh International Festival. At just 22 he made his debut with Scottish Opera in their production of Carmen and subsequently covered the role of the Imperial Registrar in Madame Butterfly.


In 2007/2008 he won a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he continues to study with John Evans. Douglas is grateful to the The Robertson Trust and Serena Fenwick for their support. In 2009 he will sing with Garsington Opera in their performances of Fidelio and Cenerentola.
