Born
in Hertfordshire, Samling Scholar Louise Collett gained a
BMus First Class Honours degree at the Royal Scottish Academy
of Music and Drama in 2006, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma
in Concert Singing in 2007 and is now in the Alexander Gibson
Opera School at the RSAMD on the Master of Music course. For
the duration of this time, Louise has been under the tuition
of Kathleen McKellar Ferguson. |
| Since commencing
her degree at the RSAMD in 2002, Louise's successes include
winner of the Jean Highgate Scholarship, finalist in the Kathleen
Ferrier Bursary for Young Singers winner of the Governers'
Recital Prize, winner of the Frank Spedding Lieder Prize,
winner of the Margaret Dick Competition and second place in
the Ye Cronies Opera Award.
She has appeared in the chorus
of Handel's Alcina and Verdi's Falstaff. Roles include Arnalta
L'incoronazione di Poppea (Monteverdi), Third Lady The Vanishing
Bridegroom (Judith Weir), Older Woman Flight (Jonathan Dove),
Florence Pike Albert Herring (Britten) and Olga Eugene Onegin
(Tchaikovsky) all with the RSAMD. Other roles include Lehrbube
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Wagner) and Mere Jeanne
Les Dialogues des Carmelites (Poulenc) both in concert performance
in the Edinburgh International Festival, 2006 and 2007 respectively.
In summer 2007, Louise sang in the Chorus of the Bayreuth
Festival, Germany appearing in Parsifal, Tannhaüser and
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Wagner).
Concert and Oratorio repertoire covers a wide spectrum for
Louise, including Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt,
Bach’s Wienachts Oratorium, St. John Passion and Magnificat,
Berio’s Folksongs (performed with the Hebrides Ensemble
at the RSAMD in January 2007), Duruflé’s Requiem,
Schumann’s Frauenliebe und leben and Britten’s
Rejoice in the Lamb.
In 2008 she sang the role of La Prieure
in Poulenc’s Les Dialogues des Carmelites at the RSAMD
and the role of Olga in Lehar’s Merry Widow with Scottish
Opera Go Round.
